Periodic table of elements

Background:

As high school students, chemistry was never our strong suit. In the meantime our interest in the subject has grown and we've taken a different perspective on the subject. Every chemistry class in the world has a poster in it showing the periodic table, but why is the table setup the way it is? And isn't there a way to make the 118 elements more recognizable? Give them some sort of identity?
We decided to investigate these questions.

Development
During the research phase we discovered why the periodic table looks the way it does. Once we understood it, we played around with a couple of ways to transfer this understanding to others. The unique thing about an element is the way its electrons are configured, so we decided to focus on that to provide every element with a unique identity.

Result

We ended up developing a concept in which the user started of with a short explanation of the basics atoms, their configuration of electrons, and how this related to the periodic table. After this introduction, the user is able to investigate the whole table freely, clicking around and seeing how the electronic configuration changes periodically.
